Paris Fashion Week: Chanel Spring 2013

I have long been a fan of Chanel. The iconic purses and power suits captured my attention from a very young age. A few years ago, I saw a French film about Coco Chanel and was mesmerized. I loved her sassy character, her quick wit and willingness to push fashion boundaries. Above all, I was inspired by her ambition and success in a male dominated world. Though she is long gone, Chanel still has that something special.

This photos are from the Spring 2013 Paris Fashion Show. Karl Lagerfield, who is head designer for Chanel, has created rich and complex pieces that could actually be worn out! I love it when runway looks are something that I actually might wear.

This week a thought provoking image went viral. A high school art project that is starting conversations about sexualizing women's bodies and shaming women for being sexual. This photo really struck a chord with me and I wanted to share it with you.

Weekend Casual.

Sadly, the weather has returned to normal January temperatures and I am cozying up in over-sized sweaters and casual pants. I decided to throw together a casual look that I could wear on a cold January weekend.

As a law student, my most important accessory is my watch. I wish I could say that it was my black leather messenger bag or my Michael Kors bag, but in truth, it's my watch. Before coming to law school I rarely wore watches and used my cellphone to check the time. Most of my friends are the same, when you ask "what time is it?", the answer comes from the fastest person to pull out their phone.

Moving into a professional career, it's generally inappropriate to use your cellphone to check the time. Not only do most people find looking at cellphones in the company of others rude, but it's too obvious a way of checking the time. Imagine this, you have a 2pm appointment and are sitting with your immediate boss, what do you think she would say if you whipped out your phone, checked the time and pointedly said you have to leave? I bet she wouldn't be impressed. Watches are perfect for for subtly checking the time and making a polite but quick exit.

Keeping this in mind, I'd like to showcase a few stylish watches that would be a perfect addition to any young professional woman's wardrobe.

The weather has been unusually mild for January. The snow is melting, and the thermostat is rising. I have been wearing two new jackets that I bought in December planning to wear this spring. I have found another delightful coat-- crisp lines and vibrant colours-- that I think is perfect for spring.

Bedroom Benches.

Over the holidays, I received a home decor and entertaining book. I have really enjoyed the book and it has given me many ideas about how to spruce up my living space. One of the ideas has been a bedroom bench. I am a big fan of bedroom benches because they give you a place to sit when I'm getting ready, especially for putting on shoes. Depending on the style, they are also great for storage space. As a student, I am not flush with space so it's a major plus when I find stylish furniture that doubles as storage space.

The weather outside is frightful.... When I arrived back in Canada this week, I was greeted with two feet of snow and -20 C weather. On top of that, I am experiencing some heating difficulties in my apartment. Hopefully that will be resolved soon, but I am currently cozying up in warm sweaters. In light of the cold snap, I wanted to post some sweaters that I thought would be nice on a cold day like today.

I have long been a fan of ballet, and I especially love photos of ballerinas dancing. I came across a website of ballerinas who post beautiful photos of them dancing in unlikely places. If you have the cash, I'd suggest buying a print.
